William Dumbleton - 1899
« on: Wednesday 23 June 10 09:20 BST (UK) »
William Dumbleton - born 16th July 1899 at 38 Fawe Park Road, Wandsworth, was baptised August 2nd.
He appears in the 1901 census as a "nurse child" and in the 1911 census as the adopted son of Andrew Joseph SMITH and Octavia Annie HOLTON, the daughter of the woman who "nursed" him in 1901.
From his birth certificate both his parents are known - John William DUMBLETON and Florence Ada Mary BECKLEY - and they appear in the 1911 census with two daughters but state that they have had three children but one had died (William?).
Does anyone have any knowledge of what happened to William after 1911? Or why his parents appear to have given him up for adoption and then go on to declare him deceased on the 1911 census.
Many thanks in advance
John

Is there any Oxfordshire connection to this family?  If so, could you give further details?

Yes, sorry should have specified = especially with the name Smith - Andrew Joseph Smith was born in North Hinksey, Oxfordshire 1863 and Octavia Annie Holton in Oxford 1865. All their 7 children were born in Oxford between 1887 and 1906.

Cheers
John

Hello John

I can tell you what happened to William Dumbleton.  I believe him to be my father's cousin.

Hi, francisjohn
Thank you for getting in touch - I'd forgotten all about William Dumbleton as it's 10 years since my original post :-)
I have only just returned to my tree after a long absence due to work and personal commitments so it will take some time to get sorted again but I really would appreciate knowing what happened to William.
Thanks in advance
