India 1902
« on: Wednesday 23 June 10 11:34 BST (UK) »
Hi

My Great Great Uncle, David Edwards is listed dead on the Army Returns 1901 - 1905, he died in 1902 in Ahmednagar, India.

I am now seeking advice on why David would have been in India, and where I might find more information about him, is there anyway of getting his Army Record???

Thanks
Debbie

Hi Debbie

Before WW1 they destroyed the records of men who died in service 20 years after they died. Although you should check on Findmypast when they publish the records of men discharged 1900 to 1913 later this year, just in case they missed his.

You can buy the certificate from the (UK) GRO in the usual way. If it gives his number you may be able to discover when he enlisted. If you can get to Kew you can check the Boer War medal rolls to see if he served.
