It is possible that he may have changed his surname just like his brother John and for the same reasons.

Edward / Mary and son Edward cannot be found on the 1901 census under Batha / Bather and I have done searches in England & Wales just using Christian names and year of birth with + / - 2 years but nothing stands out.

There is no trace of all three after the 1891 census

Thanks Gadget

No, seemed to have missed that. You may have found a winner with that DCR, and the correct age too. It could also mean that Mary remarried (or married a first time) after Edward Snr's death and also changed her son's surname upon remarriage. That's another DC to be ordered next week

I have now noticed a marriage at Conway in 1907 of an Edward Bather, could this be the son then aged 18 ?

I have to go out for a couple of hours now so will have a look when I return. that death is in the right area as son Edward was registered at Conway

Many thanks

Using the free index of the 1911, which we are  allowed to mention,  the family that William lists are in Conway, as Bartha

This looks like Mary's death:

Mary Bather, aged 70. March q, 1832, Conway, vol 11b, p 673

and it looks as if daughter Mary married a   Robert Jones, Dec q, 1913, Conway, vol 11b p 846

son Hugh J Barther  served  WW1 in the Welsh Guards and the Royal Welch Fusilliers - Reg Nos. 1439 and 222 (medal card only)

son Edward Barther served WW1 in the Bn RWF,  Reg No. 479 . I've found his service record (He was 5ft 4 1/2 ins and demobbed 2nd March 1919) Not sure if this was not  TA or not  :-\ His mother, Mary, is down as next of kin. He was a postman

Thanks very much all you guys and dolls for your assistance, the postman is of interest. I spent 30 years with the Post Office and my youngest daughter is a postwoman

Now I need to digest all this info and place into my extended tree
