MARRIAGE CERT
« on: Saturday 22 May 04 09:18 BST (UK) »

Just received a marriage cert - in column for fathers name and surname it has Anne Coman and column for profession has a line through it.

Anne Coman was the grooms mother - do I take it that the fellow had no known father !

Yes, I would certainly take that to be the case.

Better knowing that than looking for a 'father' who had been conjured up for the day.

Besides, it gives us the added fun of guess-who-she-married-later to find out which name they appear under in the census(es).

Having seen *that* at least once before, I'm convinced that's why I can't find one of mine until he  leaves home, and reverts to a birth surname.
