Agnes Hain Gossip - 1881
« on: Saturday 26 June 10 21:21 BST (UK) »
Hello Rootschatters,

I'm hoping that you will be able to help me find Agnes Gossip on the 1881 English census, as she seems to have disappeared from Scotland.

She was born in Edinburgh on 13th September 1865, the only child of John Gossip (c.1840-1867) and Ann Fenwick  (c.1845-1871).

I found her on the Scottish census of 1871:

133 Fountain Bridge, Edinburgh.
John Fenwick, Head, 50, Blacksmith, b. Perthshire.
Elizabeth Fenwick, Wife, 47,            , b. Cults, Fife.
Ann Gossip Fenwick, Dau.,25,          , b. Kircaldy, Fife.
William Fenwick, Son, 11, Scholar, b. Edinburgh.
John Fenwick, Son, 7, Scholar, b. Edinburgh.
Agnes Gossip, G.Dau., 5, Scholar, b. Edinburgh.

I can't find the deaths of John or Elizabeth Fenwick in Scotland, or that of Agnes - so I'm assuming that they left Scotland.
I would be grateful for any look up on the English Census to establish whether or not they moved down south.

Regards

Ah - thanks for that.

I've found two of them.
John Fenwick Snr is dead, William Fenwick is in the pitts in Durham, but sadly no Agnes.

Thanks again.

I've now found Agnes Hain Gossip. She died in Houghton, England in the October quarter of 1873, aged 8 years.

That means the Gossip line of the family is 'extinct'.
