The 1939 voters list in Dublin gives the following James Beatty in Dublin

Beatty, James 1939-40 RAHENY NB 195 70 ABBEYFIELD
Beatty, James (R.) 1939-40 PHOENIX PARK GA 239  GARDA DEPOT
Beatty, James 1939-40 ARRAN QUAY AH 1550 6 NEW STREET, No. 3
Beatty, James 1939-40 ARRAN QUAY AG 958 32 SMITHFIELD
Beatty, James 1939-40 CABRAGH BB 805 40 ST. ATTRACTA ROAD
Beatty, James 1939-40 RATHMINES WEST HC 2021 14 YORK ROAD

I would look at the one especially around Arran Quay as not far from Guinness.

No Edward Beatty's in Dublin city in 1939.
Thanks

Thanks ambyrne that gives me a place to start. The Edward thing is a bit of a mystery. We don't know where he went just that he existed and left a massive hole in annie's life. It affected her desperately apparently.

Just joined the site after searching for information of my great grandparents.
Came across this site by searching for great grand father James Beatty
I Have a copy of my grand dads birth certificate Edward Beatty born 1903 in Temple Bar Dublin
Father James Beatty Mother Annie Beatty (Finnegan)
Edward was born 6th November 1903 and christened  20th November 1903
He was later adopted ( i will need to dig out the in for for this) but you can find it on Ancestry.co.uk  website for Edward Beatty born 1903 think its the 1911 census
He later moved to Dublin were he married Mary Bourke 7th October 1929
They had 2 sons and 1 daughter Austin, George (my Dad) and Rita
Have been trying for quite a few year s to find out what happened to James Beatty and Annie Finnegan

Hi Val
Great news finally found someone from my great grandad Edward side of the family.
James would be my Great Great Grand father also
Edward appears in the 1911 census at 5 newtownbarry wexford being adopted by Margret Taylor aged 50 Shopkeeper along with her daughter Bridget, also living with them is 2 other children aged 5 and 3 both girls and also not related to any of them.
I have some  copies of letters written by Annie when she was asking this family to look after Edward.
I can dig them out and send you copies along with Edwards Birth certificate.
I am new to this site so what do i need to do to be able to contact out outside of this chat group?
i couldn't  find any were i could email you directly.
Sean
