Is this what you are looking for:

1851
HO 107/1525/152/84
51/2 Hanover Court, St Giles without Cripplegate

Henry Barnell  30  Staymaker
Mary A Barnell 27  Boot binder
Henry Barnell    7

The original is very faded, so whoever transcribed it did well to be able to make it out.

1861

RG 09/229/124/27

9 Coleman St, St tephen Colman St, London

Henry Barnell  40   Stay maker
Mary Barnell    37   book binder
Henry W Barnell 17 Messenger

So unless they lost any children between censuses, it looks as if there was just the one child.

Many thanks for looking that up for me yes it seems these are the Barnells i was looking for.
it seems very unusual for them to have only one child as their son farthered 9 that i know of.

many thanks

Hiya Nora.....on familysearch.org

Henry William Barnell was born 18th september 1843 ..father Henry ..mother Mary Ann.(on this extracted record Henry senior is spelt BARNELL not Barnewall)

he was christened 6th September 1852 at St Bartholomew Moor Lane, London ..9 years later ??...the first thing that entered my head was that Henry W was christened with ANOTHER child - otherwise why wait 9 years ?...so I wouldn`t give up just yet...they may have had another baby in 1852 that died between sep 1852 and 1861 census...

both records are EXTRACTED and are both together on IGI.....
in 1881 he has 8 children (one only 7 days old and unamed).....he is a Hat Manufacturer ...in Luton
