ww2 regiment?
« on: Wednesday 30 March 05 11:38 BST (UK) »
My wife recently discovered a letter of condolence sent to her aunt from
Capt. P.R.Faulkes.
 O.C. D.Coy.,
 1.  D.W.R.
 B.N.A.F.
16th May 1943

This letter states that her Husband (Wifes Uncle) was killed by mortar fire on a hill called "Bon Aoukas" between "Medjez el Bab" and "Tebourba" in Tunisia.
He was firing a Bren Gun at the time.
The question is, what regiment was he in?
obviously D company, but "1. D.W.R."
O'Brien, Staffs & Ireland: Jarvis, Gorman,W.Yorks.& Mars
Hatto, Yorks & Berks. Thomas, Derbs. & Yorks.
