Grandfather - Brophy
« on: Saturday 03 July 10 21:09 BST (UK) »
Looking for any info on my grandfather Daniel Brophy born around 1890, died appr 1960, Dublin. Married to Florence (Finola) Golden. He was possibly from Carlow and may have been adopted or lived in a childrens home there. I am aware that he was invovled in the Easter Rising 1916, Dublin. I am hoping to trace his parents/ ancestors. Would be grateful if anyone can help  :)

Hi Brophy

Would be good if you ordered his marriage cert to Florence, if you haven't already, to see what it says about his father (you may already have this).

Have you searched the 1901/1911 census for him? This could be him in 1911 www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai000007738/

With what you said about possible birth in Co. Carlow and that earlier possible 1911 entry, I wonder if this could be him in 1901 www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai000421926/

There are a couple of Ancestry trees on Daniel which would be worth looking at for verification  :) They essentially show:

Daniel Patrick Brophy, b. 1892 in Leighlinbridge Co Carlow, son of Patrick Brophy and Sarah Shaw. He is down as having a first marriage to a Janie Doyle (no dates), and two children from this marriage. Marriage to Florence Golden is given as having taken place in 1926 in Dublin. Four children from this second marriage. Daniel's death is showing as having been in Feb. 1961 in Dublin and Florence in 1983 in Dublin.

Something to work from to try and verify....

Nothing showing regarding dates or events for his parents and sister from that entry in 1901.

This could be his father Patrick in the 1911 census, in the same area as 1901 and also showing as a widower www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai001677049/

Monica

Added: Could this be sister Sarah I wonder in 1911 www.census.nationalarchives.ie/reels/nai002593388/

That great Shane  :)

Makes sense Brophy to start verifying from what you know for certain about Daniel and then work back, then you can be certain you are working on the correct lines.
