Brighton marriage lookup 1826
« on: Wednesday 30 March 05 20:40 BST (UK) »
The IGI has the marriage of Charles MILLS and Elizabeth WOODS at Brighton 9 Aug. 1826. These are the correct names for the couple I am researching--just not where I would have expected them to marry. Would there be further info available (such as occupation or location) in the marriage index for Sussex?
Was Brighton perhaps a popular place to go for marriage?
Thanks for any help.
Marjorie

Hi Marjorie,

Welcome to RootsChat.  :)

I'm afraid there are no further details in the marriage index, no witness names etc, except to say that both were of the parish, it was by banns and neither had been married before.  So no positive help there.

I don't specifically know about Brighton being a popular place to go, but it may well have been.  After all, George IV had made it very fashionable.

Thanks very much Nell. I'm just being lazy.  ;D
I will order the film into a Family HIstory Centre and check the entire thing out.  Not sure why they would have married in Brighton as he was from Surrey and she born in Berkshire. It's the right names and the right time period, just a different location.
Thanks again for your assistance.
Marjorie
