Will appreciate any assistance.

Hi Wal

Did he marry (and name a father on the certificate) ?
Have you got him in any census?

Cheers  :)

Hi Wal,

What Ambly says about the census is a good way to go.  In 1841 he would have been c 13 so very likley he was with is parents and siblings, if any.  That will give you a start.

If you don't have access to census[ I don't :'( ] you can ask for a lookup.

G'day Ambly,

Thank you for your reply.
I have a marriage for a Benjamin BUTLER in 1856 at Rye in Sussex to an Elizabeth nee CHANDLER, and I have been chatting with the Sussex group.
I realise that it is some distance from NOTTS but of over five Benjamin BUTLERs born in my required time frame the NOTTS one is the only not accounted for.
I believe that I do have him in the '51 census as an unmarried Ag Lab lodging at Hucknall Torkard NOTTS. Information just to hand says that he may have been born in Basford area.
The shipping papers on his arrival with his wife to OZ indicated that he was 32 and was an Ag Lab also hence the possible connection.
Would be possible to have a check for the '41 census
Regards
Wal
