Yes its true when the Deeds are registered at the Land Registry there is no need to retain the rest of them. It is what is known as a Charge Certificate. When the mortgage is paid off it becomes a Land Certificate.  However I agree with you, and we have got both certificate and Deeds.

I have typed many a Conveyance, Transfer and Abstract of Title in my time, and always found old Deeds fascinating.  It's nice to know that someday, something I have typed will  hopefully be examined by a family researcher. The bit I enjoyed when I finished a very long Abstract of title (one A3 paper) was melting the red wax in the corner and stitching it up with green tape.
