William Lloyd
« on: Monday 19 July 10 18:58 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I am tracing the Lloyd family and in the 1861 census came across a William Lloyd, b. 1822, a cabinet maker. His birth place is listed as  " S(could be Ll)dandewgrewin, Breecknockshire. He was a widow, with seven children:

Jane, age 13yrs,  b. Builth
William, age 12yrs     "
Chas (Charles), age 10yrs      "
James,  aged 8 yrs                  "
Thomas, age 6yrs, b. Staffs  ? West Bromwich
May,  age 3 yrs               "                "
Rosa, age 1yr.        b.     "      Oldbury

His wife must have died after giving birth to Rosa. William re-married and had another 7 children in West Bromwich.

Does anyone recognise the village of that, or a similar name ?
Any information would be appreciated.

I had a look at his entry in 1851, and the place of birth looks like Llanddewi'r Cwm

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/BRE/LlanddewirCwm/index.html

census ref for 1851 HO107/2488 folio 255 pg 1, wife's name also Jane.

Hi, Osprey,
Thank you for your very prompt reply. I would think that the enumerator of the 1861 census had a job either translating or spelling of the village. At least, this now gives me more to work on. I didn't know the name or origin of his first wife . Had looked through FreeBMD but didn't come out with any firm answers.
Many thanks again,
RobPhill

Hi, Handi,
Thank you for your message of yesterday, re. Frank Lloyd. I would be very interested in the details. I was doing the research on the Lloyd family for a distance relative of my wife. I have, so far traced the family back to 1800, so quite willing to supply you with any info. I have collected. It has been a few months since I looked at the Lloyd family, so you have spurred me on !!
