I've just been given an original copy of my great grandmother's "grant of exclusive right of burial" at Hearton cemetery at Bolton. I was wondering if anyone has a good knowledge of this cemetery who could help me find out where her grave is, I tried to look for her today but the place is HUGE and as far as I know there is no headstone/marker for her - she is the only person in the plot. My mum's cousin seems to remember it being next to/very close to an Airman's grave but the last time anyone went to this grave was in the early 1940's.

The information on the document is "said cemetery marked 63 in section N1 (possibly NI - I can't make it out) Division number 3 in the nonconformist ground" On the back of the document it states "burial number 12 feet 63392, February 27th 1941"

Please can anyone help me, I really want to find her and go and lay some flowers for her.

If you google 'Bolton Crematorium' this will give the address and telephone number of the crematorium and they will be able to give you the location off the grave from the ref. numbers your have.
Hope this is of help to you. Jake01.

Thank you, I have contacted them and they have confirmed that she is indeed the only person in the plot and they can provide me with a map, however the charge for this is £10 which I can't afford at the moment so I will go and find her when I have a bit of extra money

Hi Lancashire_Rose,
You are indeed correct with your assumptions.
The Grave Number is : 3 / N1 / 63
This means that the grave is number 63 in Section N1 Division 3
The entry number in the register is 63392, and the deed number should be 15575
Name given is Margaret Alice Nuttall ; Aged 60 years.
Address is given as 29 Ainscow Street, Whittingham
The plot N1 can contain up to 100 graves, but at least you will be in the right area.
Good Luck with your search.
Best Regards.

Hi Rose

I have two lots of my family buried in Heaton and as you say it is fairly enormous. if you can work out the approximate area from the map provided then look on the back of the gravestones - they have numbers on which may help you to narrow down the search area.

Hope you can find the plot.

best wishes

The stones may have grave numbers on them, but there seems to be no system for the numbers within the plot. It looks like the grave numbers were allocated chronologically rather than relating to a position on the ground.

Without stones, I couldn't find the plots I was looking for, but at least I know they haven't moved!

Looking at ALSTON in south Ribble area, ALSTEAD and DONBAVAND/DUNBABIN etc. everywhere, HOWCROFT and MARSH in Bolton and Westhoughton, PICKERING in the Whitehaven area.

Hi Maria (miriamkinga)
I notice from your post that you have FLAHERTY as a name of interest.
My family has a connection with a Frederick FLAHERTY who lived and died in Bolton. He is buried in Heaton cemetery, and I was wondering if this is one of your family connections that are buried in Heaton.
If this is correct, please get in touch so that we can compare what we know.
Fredericks dates were : b. 1885 d. 1945.
Best Regards
Wayne

Hi Wayne

Sorry don't think Fred's one of mine - my Flahertys descend from Michael b 1876 Lerhin, Ireland. Was Frederick born in Bolton?

Best wishes
