Any thing that is known that will add a bit to the history for example
How big is the pub? Was it originally someones front parlour or was it perpose built?
How old is it?
Has it got an interesting sign?
Any local stories about it
Has it ever changed it's name?
Was the pub used by any unusual groups? One I have on my list was used by Morris men and by the local bell ringers
Was it central to any local traditions? One held a welfare club and had an annual feast for the members with the unclaimed money
Was any other trade operating from the pub? I have a Gunsmith, a blacksmith, and several butchers and shoemakers at pubs
Are there any lists of past Landlords on display?  One has a board with the past landlords like Churches have lists of past clergy! Both played an important social role in small communities
Has it ever been used as a polling station  I vote in one at every election
Has it ever been used for religious services?

But above all are they still in business?

Any information however Small will be usefull to build up a picture of the lie of the ancestors

I'm reviewing my pubs pages on my web site so revisiting this old thread.
There is a report in Exeter and Plymouth Gazette 13 March 1830 about the pub fire saying the public house was the property of Mr. Jefferies.
As the Newspaper links John Jefferies to the King's Head, Coleford at the time of the fire and as his first wife was buried in Mells on June  26 th 1828 It gives a small period when he must have made the move so can anyone help to find a transfer of licence of the King's Head between June  1828 and March 1830 or the transfer of a licence from a pub in Mells in the same time frame? John Jefferies must have held a licence between 1821 and 1830  for a house  or houses in Kilmesdon or Mells. I so want to find out which pub(s) he first kept. At the baptisms of his children in Mells it gives his abode as Kilmesdon so  the pub may have been in Mells or Kilmersdon?
Has anyone access to Old Directories for the area for  the 1820's I am having problems navigating the Leicester University site
