So do I understand that you are looking to move backwards by finding the baptisms of William & Louisa?

I have no idea what sort of information is given on Maltese records so my questions may be way off base ;)

You say Louisa was a bit younger than William when they married.  Any indication of her birth year?  I have found a Louisa  Allen baptised in Gosport in 1815, parents Thomas & Patience.  Do either of these names crop up in William & Louisa's family?

Re Louisa Nibbs, daughter of John Nibbs, master baker - when was she born?

Hi! Nell, Yes, I'd like to find the parents of William, to get back further if possible!!.  Louisa Allen was a minor  when married 13.12.1837 in Malta, as had to have the consent of her Guardian. She was the daughter of a Louis Barber Allen, - but she may not have come from Hampshire. But, I too had found  Thomas and Patience, but they don't use these names as family names, so I am not happy with that.
Going to Louisa Nibbs.  On the Maltese records I have, it says she is a daughter of John and Anne Nibbs, but on her birth record she is recorded as Louisa Lockyer, and futher up the family (more recent) other members of the family,   call themselves-Nibbs- Lockyer??  Rosina Nibbs& Emma, sisters of louisa,  found on  the 1841 census are married out in Malta also. The family are recorded as being there in 1852, 1854, and 1856.But John is back in England in 1881 and dies in 1885.
I feel quite possitive about the William and Jane Wright, possibly Williams parents. It fits - age and place !! ;)
Thanks for all your help. I shall investigate further at 'Kew' - intriguing!! :D

Oh good - confirmation of something I found.

1841 census records the family as Nibbs at King Street, Gosport.  In the household are:

John Nibbs 60 Warder? P Not born in county
James Nibbs 25 Baker J(ourneyman)
Ann Nibbs 25
Emma 5
Rosina 4
James 2

Looking at the baptism records I found these transcriptions
Emma Mary Lockyer bapt 8 May 1836, daughter of James Nibbs & Ann Lockyer
Ann Rosina Lockyer, bapt 25 Jun 1837, daughter of James Lockyer and Ann Nibbs.
I couldn't find anything for James under either Nibbs or Lockyer.  No marriage in any combination of Nibb(s) and Lockyer.  :-\  A sight of the original register might help here.

I also found a George Nibbs Lockyer baptised in 1813 so I'm really confused about the names.

John Nibbs is still alive in 1851, living in King Street.  He was born in Wimborne, Dorset and his wife (no idea where she was in 1841) was born in Devon.  He died in 1857.

At the moment this family is not making much sense.  :(

Hi! Nel,    ;D You have the right family!, the name confusion  on John/James, is because our chap the baker is really John James, but his Father John, is with them alot, so I think they changed the names around, and call the son James -at times.  All the information I have from Malta he called John.
George, I think must have been John James's brother, as John has a son,George,(1839) who is also with them in Malta. He marries an Elizabeth Parks, but infortuatly she dies out there and he remarried a Frances Wells. He is a 'Writer' in the dockyard.  I also have a William Nibbs, living in Malta in 1854, don't know where he comes in yet!!
The John Nibbs you have in 1851, is John (Sen), I havn't bothered to go further with them at the moment, as I have been struggleing with William Wright!!
Thanks for the Lockyer information - I thought it was probably something like that, but that was to be 'looked into'!! It may be they were not actually married :-\ ?- that would account of Louisa just useing her mothers name!
My picture is getting clearer all the time!! Thanks again.Cheers Chris

Hi -  I have been doing some research on the Wright family for my cousin and discovered today that John Wright, bc 1811, England, had a son Alfred Lawson by his first marrige (I suspected this) born in July 1, 1844 - this from the Family History of Malta.

John and his son Alfred emigrated to Quebec, where John remarried and had more children.
