hi,
Ooh , its all a bit complicated , do nt know if this will make anything clearer :)

1881 census RG11/3184  131/6
Scalford
Joseph Origde  head mar 52  Ag Lab              Loughboro, Leics.
Ester  "            wife  mar 53                         Scalford, Leics.
Mary   "            dau         22          Lace Hand "
Ruth   "             dau         18           "      "      "
THOMAS "          son         15     Farm serv.     "
ESTHER A "        granddau  6 mo                    "

Thomas Oridge married Caroline Todd   Melton Mowbray district AMJ 1901

Looks like they went on to have the folowing children substantiated on the 1911 census

Millicent Esther  1902
Elsie                  1904
Kathleen Iris      1906
Annie Isabel       1908

So Esther Ann would be a relative of Elsies

Looks like two of the sisters at least married a Bailey

Millicent E m Thomas
Kathleen I m George W

Dates of marriage on www.freebmd.co.uk

You would need Peters birth certificate available from GRO  to be sure of his Mother.

Best wishes

Thanks for your reply..

We have a copy of dad's birth certificate. It names Esther as his mother but some say this wasn't true...  Is that possible?

Hi,
The only thing I can think of is perhaps Millicent Esther Orridge( who married Thomas Bailey) used her middle name on the birth certificate instead of Millicent. that would makeThomas stepfather.
Not usual to lie as to mothers name but I suppose possible.

Hello Cath,  It is all very confusing.  I am sure the Esther Ann was the daughter of Joseph and Esther and not grandaughter as recorded.  Maybe i am wrong.  kathleen iris was my nan and would likely have been the cath mentioned by KLzr23.  She married George William Bailey and lived in Oakham.  I don't think Thomas is related.

Hi all,

I am KLzr23's daughter and the theory I'm working on is...
Annie Isobel Orridge is Peter's mother. But she was institutionalised for most of her life so, her Aunty Esther had taken her on. Dates would make more sense too as Annie would have been 22 when Peter was born.

Look forward to the day where we can crack the case ;)

Also what I've come across, which you may have already learnt;
Thomas is the father of Kathleen, Annie, Millicent and Elsie Orridge. Their mother is Caroline Orridge. They also at some point I believe lived with two cousins, Dorothy and Mabel Todd. Is that similar to what findings you have all come across?

Thankyou
