I'm researching Ashtons in the Leicestershire/Northamptonshire/Hertfordshire areas and have discovered that the IGI has numerous mistakes in listing St Albans as in Herefordshire when it is of course in Hertfordshire.
I discovered it by accident as I live in Herefordshire and thought I'd see how many Ashtons there were in the county. Of the 174 listed most were actually in St Albans. There are some other names too, those connected to Ashtons, maybe others.
So if you are researching Hertfordshire I suggest you try Hereforshire, too. You may find your long lost ancestor there!
