Ada Kenyon missing relative
« on: Sunday 25 July 10 16:07 BST (UK) »
I have a relative who appears aged 8 on the 1881 census in Clowne Derbyshire and again in 1891 living with her sister Annie Mapletoft but by 1901 she has disappeared entirely, obviously she would be 28 by this time and likely to be married but can find no evidence of her, she was born in 1872 or 1873 in Anston Yorkshire. Any ideas?

Hello Jopeg

There's a marriage for Ada Kenyon in Dec qtr. 1891 at Ecclesall Bierlow to either Frederick Sykes or Tom Harry Carr. Ref: 9c 577. This district is the border of North Derbyshire & Yorkshire (Sheffield).
I've had a look on the 1901 census under both surnames for Derbyshire & West Yorkshire & found nothing for Carr but there are quite a few Adas in W Yorks, but I can't find a Frederick as we don't know his age.

Thanks Mike, that is definitely the right area, but would be South Yorks I think?

Looks like that one married Tom Harry Carr - 1901 has her living in Ecclesall Bierlow age 34 born Sheffield.

Hi,
If, on the 1901 Census, you do a search for "Ada" age 28 born Anston Yorkshire you only get
one exact result:-

RG13/3183 Folio 7 Pg 5 Nottingham, Civil Parish Old Radford
Burrows Levi  32  Attercliffe
 "    Ada          28  Anston
Myrtle   9
Minnie   6
Llewellyn  3
Various places of birth given, but all children registered Worksop.

There is a marriage on Free BMD  March Q 1891 Worksop 7b 65 for Levi Burrows + others,
however there are 2 missing females.  This is after allowing for the double entry for Fred Knibbe/s.

Perhaps worth paying the dreaded fee for a marriage certificate!
Regards

I looked at that one too but there are no Ada Kenyons getting married that quarter on GRO index
