Parkes Family
« on: Tuesday 27 July 10 11:09 BST (UK) »
Hi there,
I'm just starting to look into my family history. I live in Australia and my grandfather, George Henry Parkes was born in Birmingham in @ 1894. He came out here with his soon to be wife Dora Kemp but went back to the UK in the 70s and passed away over there. His father was Samuel Parkes and I believe his grandfather was also named Samuel.I'd appreciate any info anyone might have about the family.
Cheers, Amanda Parkes.

Thankyou all for your hard work, that gets me off to a good start. I'd found a Samuel Parkes in the 1871 cencus but now I know hes a different fellow, so I can look again with the info you've given me. Good work!
Amanda.

I believe George Parkes of that address was my grandfather. My father was his illegitimate son and was given Parkes as his middle name. He visited that address as a child but George went abroad. I would love to get in touch. Father still alive aged 90 and has always wondered about his father.

Welcome to rootschat, Lulu.

The postings are 9 years old, so Amanda may no longer be expecting or receiving update notification, so keep fingers crossed.

The family is in a few trees on Ancestry, with several photos attached.  Have you access to Ancestry and tried to make contact with the tree owner?

'Father still alive aged 90'

If he was born in 1928/1929 that is after George went to Australia in 1923 - or do you mean that he is in his 90's?  (Or did George return for a few months?)
