My Dad was born along the Stourbridge Rd nr Woodside which is just outside Holly Hall which is most definatly Dudley not Wordsley. Holly Hall is a good 3 miles away from Wordesley maybe more my children were born in Wordsely x

Hi
It seems to have been half way between Round Oak and Brettell Lane.
There was a train accident which is described here on Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Round_Oak_rail_accident
and page 150 here http://www.rootschat.com/links/0c3o/
If you can find an old map you can probably work it out.

I found a reference to a Bug Hole near Willenhall, that one is said to be from bwk or a goblin - a mile from Pouk Hill near Walsall Wood, see http://www.rootschat.com/links/0c3p/
It could be something similar since there is Powkes Lane not so far away, isn't there?

But as Linell said, that is Wordsley way rather than Holy Hall so perhaps this is another one?

Thanks for the links Gardener and Angel Eyes.  A lot of the confusion is due to the Registration District, Kingswinford (Ambelcote, Brettell Lane, Round Oak, Brierley Hill, Quarry Bank, Saltwells, Pensnett, Brockmoor, Bromley) comes under Dudley.  I will pull out my old maps and have a better look.  Linell.

It looks as though there were two then. It should be posible to look at the enumerator's record page for the Bug Hole on piece 2058 from 1861, and work out exactly were it was.

I found it on my map.  It is between Brierley Hill and Wordsley, just south of the Stourbridge Canal, next to a Colliery, could well be the name of the Colliery??  The Wordsley Glass Houses are to the south, think that is where the Red Cone Glass Museum is today.  As Gardener says maybe there is another one nearer Dudley?  Linell.

:) This is all great, thank you so much for your help. The enumerators page states:

"Part of the parish of Dudley called Holly Hall commencing at Bug Hole low town to the railway bridge the parish boundary also commencing at Mr(looks like)Salts Holly Hall Harts Hill and houses at the back to the parish boundary namely the canal including the house late Will.Rollasone"

The addresses change after Bug Hole to Low Town, then Holly Hall, then Harts Hill, then West St,Wood St,Chapel St,what looks like Price or Grice St,then may be a High st??
