Hi Cotten

Kb86 alerted me to Percy Charles Dean aged 1 in 1911 with mother Emily Dean
[ I hadn't looked, went for a lie down :-) ]

PCD
born 5th April 1910 (Hatfield 3a 829)
died Mar 1988 (Hatfield 10 340)

If there are any descendants of the 4 Dean children then there is a high probability of them being around now. Rootschat policy is not to publish in those circumstances.

To include/exclude Alfred as the father of PCD, then the birth certificate needs to be obtained.

PCD may not then be the only child .......

As you have proved that Alfred S Cotton married Emily Dean (nee Winter) in 1919 and found that they did not have any children, it appears that there are no descendants of Alfred S Cotton which is what Cotten was trying to discover according to the initial posting.

Hi all

"Cotten" has been logged on recently and has other "Cotton" threads going on Leicestershire and Suffolk.

Until "Cotten" posts again in this thread then I agree with "CottonHistorian".

Ray

Can you look up the marriage registered Dec 1895 at Hitchin Vol 3a Page 802 as Charles Cotton and Selina Cousins to find out who were the fathers and witnesses?† This Charles is one of two who could be the elder brother of Alfred S Cotton.

Thanks,

It means that Alfred S Cottons elder brother Charles must be this one:

Marriage registered Sep 1888 at Biggleswade Vol 3b Page 587 as Charles Cotton and Annie Elizabeth Kempe

Amazing how quickly you manage to find the answers!

Sorry but I haven't checked back on this forum for a while. I appreciate all of the responses from Ray and others.

This family and the one I posted about in Suffolk were the only surviving branches which I was able to identify of the Cotton family of Alkington, Shropshire. I originally began researching them in a search for my English roots but eventually found they do not appear to be related to my line. However it does seem likely they are connected to one of the other families in our Cotton DNA project - see "family 3" @ http://home.comcast.net/~cottondna/

After the 1911 census was released, I decided to renew the search in hopes of finding a living male descendant who might be interested in DNA testing. Unfortunately, for now it appears that both the Hertfordshire line and the Suffolk line are dead ends.

As for my post on the Leicestershire board, that is a totally unrelated family and is my one and only lead toward identifying my own Cotton line (family 7 in the project). That hasn't proven fruitful either at this point.
