Loughlin's from Galway, Ireland - Help Please
« on: Friday 30 July 10 17:59 BST (UK) »
Hello,

My great-grandfather Patrick Loughlin was born in the early 1860's and moved to England in the late 1880's.
In 1911 he lists his birthplace as Milltown. I have been told our family came from County Galway. There is a Milltown in Galway, thankfully.
Now I know also that Patrick had a brother Thomas who instead of going to England went to the USA.

I have never been able to trace this American side of the family.

Can any give me any pointers as to where to advertise as it were. Its got to be worth a punt at seeing if anyone over there is decended from Loughlin's and Milltown, Galway ones at that.

Thanks

Jonathan

Hi, Sandra

No sorry, all I know is his name. Do you have any idea how common the name is?
If its not that common, that there can't be that many Thomas Loughlin's from Galway.

There are a quite a few Thomas Loughlin + or - 5 years of 1865.  The passenger lists would not necessarily tell us where a person was from - thats just luck if it does.  ???

Hi, Sandra

So what you saying is we need people's help here. Its what I was expecting.

Its like a rock thats been halved. Our half of the rock went to England and here I am 130 years later and know of a brother Thomas who went from Galway to USA.
All we need is someone decended from the other half who 130 years later knows only that there was a brother Patrick who went to England.

I'll keep hoping and praying

Do you know the parents of Patrick and Thomas ? Is there a possibility that other siblings may have gone to the US as well - very often that was the case.  ??? Any small clues are always useful in the searches.
