Need a look up for 1861 scotland Census

Hoping someone can help me out with a look up for a john fergie (could be spelled Forgie also) in the 1861 census , his wife would be Helen and a  daughter eliza Jane born in 1856 in Sharblane Stirling Scotland is about all i have on this man. could be more children also.  Thanks in advance  jamie

Hi Jamie

I can't find them on the 1861 census, nor could I see a birth for Eliza Jane, Familysearch IGI have transcribed Scottish births & marruages 1855 to 1875 from the Statutory Registers so Eliza Jane should be there. Also where did the birthplace SHARBLANE come from as there doesn't appear to be such a place. It could of course be a property name.

Do you have any further details on the family such as the maiden name for Helen?

Hi thanks for your help , i do have Helen maiden name which was McFarlane. and as for the name shartblane stirling it was the listed as where Eliza Jane was born in the 1881 census, Eliza Jane fergie married Hugh Murray and i have found them in the 1881 census .

John FERGUSON 29 b Ireland Printfield Lab
Helen FERGUSON 28 b Ireland Printfield Worker
Rebecca FERGUSIN 10 b Glasgow
Eliza Jane FERGUSON 5 b Strathblane, Stirlingshire
Sarah FERGUSON 9mo b Cathcart, Renfrewshire

The IGI has a birth that I think is Sarah transcribed on the IGI as

Sarah Kerrmoad FARGEAY born 23rd July 1860, father John FARGEAY, mother Helen MCFARLANE

Given the various different transcriptions of the surname you really need to download the images from Scotlandspeople

i will do that , no wonder i have had trouble looking in  the census for these people with the different spelling of the names .

I have corrected a typo I made in the birth of Eliza Jane, her father is John FORGUE (not Dorgue)
