found a possible listing for William :

  Thom's 1879  - County Officers for Kerry

William Collier, collector of Customs, Dingle

He is also listed in the 1868 edition with the same details.

Highly possible , the only information I had was the birth of Margaret Elizabeth in Arklow in July 1873 . Margaret is my great grandmother .
I didn't know about the William Masefield junior , that now means I have 3 generations of Masefield's in my tree !!!!
If you have any further detailed information , please feel free to Pm me .

I do not appear to have sufficient accreditation for a pm,
so....
the William Masefield Collier at whom I am looking was born in Shrewsbury in 1845. Is he likely to have been your man, born to a Ballyrankin ironmonger? If it is the same fellow, he seems to have remarried in Worcester in late 1884 and he died in 1909.
