Spencer family Staffordshire
« on: Saturday 31 July 10 17:21 BST (UK) »
Could anyone offer any help on tracing my Grandmothers family ?
All I have is Emily Spencer born 2 Dec. 1855 Tamworth, and her Mother being Ellen b 1826 Hednesford. Ellen was not married I have been led to believe.
I would appreciate any help Thanks
Yekepa.

Poss: Emily Spencer christened 2 Dec 1855 Cannock Staffs mothers name given as Ellen Spencer
(I see there is also another which say's Tamworth, but personally I would ignore this as it gives same details)
Poss Emily Spencer on 1861 Census residing Penkridge (not far from Hednesford) b.1855 Hednesford
Living with: Amos and Ann Craddock, Emily desc. as niece and scholar. Not sure what has happened to mother!
Emily's aunt Anne was born Longdon.
Poss: Ellen Spencer christened 5th Feb 1826 Longdon Staffs Parents Jacob Spencer and Dorothy
Hope you can make sense of this!
Regards

No sign of Ellen anywhere on 1861 census so possibly married or died?
Poss Ellen Spencer on 1851 census Hednesford Staffs, lodging with Hannah Thackery
Ellen desc. unmarried b.Hednesford 1826, also has 2 children Thomas age 3, Ann age 1(poss
siblings to Emily?)
Poss death of Ellen Spencer 1859 Penkridge Staffs.

I can check the Tamworth record, if you want me to.  I live in Tamworth, and have bus pass and free time  ;D ;D

Amazing offer thank you, when you have time to spare. I think Emily may have lived in the home of Saunders horse trainer, who incidentally I think was her father !! I picked up a few bits from the book on Hednesford.
Thanks Yekepa

HI Yekepa:

Tamworth:  No baptisms at all on 2 December 1855, however there is a baptism of Emma, daughter of John and Sarah Spencer of Tamworth, Labourer on 23 December 1855, born 7 December 1855.

Cannock:  Emily, daughterof Ellen Spencer of Hednesford, single woman on 2 December 1855.

Glad we have ascertained that Emily Spencer / Cannock dist. is the correct one .......well done to
BumbleB for being able to rule out the Tamworth possible.
So it seems that Emily probably had 2 siblings - perhaps these too, were the children of same father
as Emily??
Yekepa, My Hednesford book is packed away at the moment, just interested to know why you think
there is a connection with the Saunders trainer, and where was his home?
