Rotterdam Wedding
« on: Friday 01 April 05 22:21 BST (UK) »
I've been trying to find the secon marriage for Alexander Cant c 1880.

Alexander married Jane Riach in 1867 and after giving him 8 children she died in 1878 (the same year as one of her children was born, could have been in childbirth - another search later).

In the 1881 census Jane's sister Margaret is living with Alexander and his 8 children as housekeeper - you know where I'm going don't you !!

Yes right, Alexander did marry Margaret but as it was against the law in Scotland to marry your sister in law he married in the Scottish Church in Rotterdam, Netherlands after the 1881 census had taken place.

I've contacted the church and other places but no one seems to be positive in which direction to send me.

Do  any 'chatters' have a route for me to try  ?            :)

By the way, alexander died in 1918 and  Margaret went on to give him 3 more children and died in 1932 aged 79.

thanks for any suggestions

Thanks,

Never thought of the IGI.  Have used it in my earlier research but never thought of it for the Netherlands.

Thanks again,

Carol ;D
