Can anyone point me in the right direction
« on: Saturday 02 April 05 03:47 BST (UK) »
Ok, now that I know that Adams is one of the top 5 (I think) English surnames..........I have a William Adams. in my tree, his daughter Caroline married my 2xGreat Grandfather in 1852.....after they had already had two children............so on her marriage cert it says she was residing in Brighton...........(which she wasn't!)

So should I look for a William Adams in Brighton..........he was married and had his children in the City of London.........but she could have used his address when she was married.
His occupation doesn't help, he is noted as a Gentleman?

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Hi Melaniejoy

You need to find Carolines birth first.  Checking your other thread I note she was born circa 1821 London.

The IGI has this entry
Caroline Susanna ADAMS
Born: 19 Dec 1820
Christened: 14 Jan 1821 St Giles Cripplegate London
Parents: William ADAMS & Sophia

Cheers
Genni

Melanie,

I found the following in the IGI -

William Adams and wife Sophia had the following children c. at St. Giles Cripplegate:

1. Sophia   b. 3 May 1809; c. 24 May 1809
2. William    b. 7 Jun 1811; c. 28 Jun 1811
3. Joseph Frederic   b. 6 Jun 1813; c. 25 Aug 1820
4. Thomas John  b. (not given); c. 30 Jul 1815
5. Sophia  b. 11 Sep 1817; c. 25 Aug 1820
6. Caroline Susanna  b. 19 Dec 1820; c. 14 Jan 1821

The parents could be:
William Adams m. Sophia Hazelgrove 19 Oct 1808 St. Giles Cripplegate

Hi Susan ( its me Melanie from BC) and yes those are the Adams references I have, but this is such a common name that these are all the references I have.

I would really like to know where William came from.
I have a pretty good idea that I have found Sophia's birth, her parents have a more unusual name.

Thanks and I'll keep looking

Melanie,

For $2.00 you can get a copy of the marriage entry from the LDS parish register film.  If William Adams was from a different parish it will say so.  That won't tell you where he was born but it might be worth having.

Also the names of his sons could give a clue to his father's name or a brother's name:
William
Joseph Frederick
Thomas John
James Nathaniel

John appears to be the name of Sophia's father.
