Thanks very much wilcoxon,

Quite a bit to get my teeth into there alright. Fortunately most of it centres around Oldham, so I think my next port of call is going to have to be Oldham Local History centre as mentioned earlier by Jane (lizanne).

Latt certainly is an odd name ??? - never heard that one before!

Much appreciated.

Looking  again at this, I would take a bet that this is Mary`s husband. He is a similer age, and I can`t find this family in England in 1841, maybe they were still in Ireland.
It`s that name Dennis that runs through all the generations, but I can`t find her with a son Latt ?  in the same year.
Anyway good luck .

A true head shredder for me - too many Dennis's!

Both the names LATT and LATO mean nothing so far although a friend has looked briefly at the handwritten entry and suggested it looks more like JACK. I've got to admit that I'm not convinced, but there have been quite a number of Jack's (John) in my family, so could this be?

Perhaps Dennis had been given his marching orders by the Mrs for some reason and he's gone back to mum and dad??

I was baffled about Latt  too - so asked for help  ;D

As for Dennis, I think you are very lucky, he could have been a Michael or John.  ;)

Latt, Lato.....and now so many other possibles to add to my confusion ??? It's just a pity that whatever the name is, it obviously hasn't been passed down through the generations to make things easier......very inconsiderate of them I must say ;D
You've obviously had plenty of experience at this kind of thing. I'm still quite clueless about where\what to research next to be honest.......but I'm learning ;).......slowly!

Thanks again for everything.

Hello again All,

I'm still struggling badly with the first name 'Latt'. I've never heard the name before and have trawled the www in search of any reference to such a name.....nothing so far!

Has anyone here ever heard this name before please?
