thanks for that Trish.  I checked deaths for Nicholas Milligan on freebmd.org and the only one is for the wife of John Milligan born 1818 and Nicholas born 1820 and she died in Bury, like in our records.

Note William T Milligan has become William J    (which we have as William James and the gravestone says William James so that will be correct)

Nicholas Milligan was born 1866
Albert J was born in 1868
so he is somewhere........ gone to Scotland, America,

Checked for death of Nicholas , nothing.  unless he was staying with one of his uncles or grandfather, John Milligan born 1818, or one of his uncles who are:
John McMurray Milligan born 1872

Maryanne and  John Bridge

Elizabeth and William Lester or Lister

John Milligan and Margaret Packavance
Samuel Milligan and Mary Ann Eaton

Joseph Milligan and Jane Rotherham
Janet Milligan and John Stephenson

Would appreciate 1871 census for the above if you are able to.
Kind regards and thanks

Albert John Milligan is my great grandfather, his son Albert Malcom Milligan is my grandfather and his son John Malcolm Milligan is my father, his birthdate is 24th August 1928, I can update all this other information with accurate dates and other links and add this in the next few days, it is in handwritten form at the moment. We are linked to the James Milligan, he is the father of Albert John Milligan. Indeed you are right, from Liverpool the family spread to St Helens. Was Janet a sister of James Milligan?
I will type in from my handwritten notes in the next few days to make this more acccurate and complete,  The John Milligan who married a Micholas Nee Micholas MC Minnus. John Milligan was born around 1820 or 1821. The 1841 census shows this information. Further to this, it appears that this John Milligan may have been the link to Ireland, to Balleybofey in Ireland where there were many original Milligans in the early 1800's. He travelled across to marry, although it is beleived that when he grew old and his was widdowed that he travelled back to Balleybofey, where he lived to almost 100, as the story has been passed down my family. He is buried near to Balleybofey. Aparantly many Milligans also lived in Rapheo about 5 miles from there.
