The Hilsden family.
« on: Saturday 07 August 10 17:40 BST (UK) »
For a few days now i have been researching about my family tree. During the way, i have found many people who have added my Great-Grand parents to their family tree on Ancestory.co.uk. If there is anyone who is a relation to George Stanley Hilsden or Freda Brown/Hilsden, i would be very grateful if they could message me. thank you  :)

Hi EllieM

There is one RootsChat member who I know has Hilsden as one of her main lines and she has done a huge amount of research on her lines. Her name is Daisy Loo here on RC. I've just sent her a message telling her about your post and hopefully she can reply to you here so that you can see whether there is a connection to her Hilsden line.

Monica  :)

Hi Ellie

(Thanks Monica, for drawing my attention to this thread :) )

The names George Stanley HILSDEN and Freda nee BROWN (Is that correct) don't immediately jump out at me as mine.  However, my main line is Hilsden, and I have traced my direct line back to 1690's.  I have also looked at many of the siblings etc.  I have traced them back to Buckinghamshire mainly.

Perhaps if you give dates and places of birth for George, we can go from there, and see if we are connected in anyway :)

George and Stanley are names that have been quite popular in my line though.

George Stanley Hilsden was born in Halstead, Essex in 1912. I dont think the blood line goes back to Buckinghamshire. But Freda Brown was born in 1913, in Little Yeldham Essex, and thats as far as i know.  :) x

Do you have the parents of George Stanley? - Essex isn't completely out of it...my grandfather was born in Essex. (Walter John HILSDEN)

Added: Okay...George Stanley HILSDEN was born 1912 MMN: DYSON

Marriage between George William HILSDEN and Susannah Agnes DYSON (So probably George Stanley's parents.)

You'd need to get the marriage cert to confirm who his father was.  BUT...here's a possible:

George William HILSDEN b. 1872 Halstead Essex (OND  Vol 4a pg385) This would make him 35 when he got married in 1907.  Younger if he went by the ages he is in the census. (You would need to get birth cert to confirm this is the right one :) )

1881 census: George HILSDEN b. 1876 Castle Hedingham, Essex (but reg district is Halstead) age 5, parents William and Elizabeth. (RG11; Piece: 1804; Folio: 63; Page: 12)

1891 Census:: George W HILSDEN b. 1876 Castle Hedingham, Essex  aged 15; parents William and Elizabeth (RG12; Piece: 1420; Folio 59; Page 20)

Can't find him yet in the 1901 census.

You would definitely need to order the birth cert, unless I have found the wrong people...but Hilsden isn't that common a name in Essex at the time.

Because I have found a marriage between a William HILSDEN and an Elizabeth SMITH in 1872 (which was the year that George William was registered) Marriage: 1872 OND Halstead 4a/665

According the 1881 census, William Hilsden was born in 1852 in Toppesfield, Essex

1871 census: William HILSDEN b. 1852 Toppesfield Aged 19, parents Isaac and Mary Ann

However in the 1881 census, George William was not the eldest son, there was a son, Harry who was 3 years older than him...cannot find birth reg for him at present!

Added: In the 1891 census, there is a James H Hilsden who is 3 years older than George William.  I'm figuring this is Harry.  There is no birth reg for a Harry Hilsden, James H Hilsden or a James Hilsden for 3 years before George's birth (Ie. 1869) however there is a James SMITH b. 1869 JAS HAlstead 4a/337

In what relation are you to George Stanley Hilsden? I am his great grand-daughter. His wife Freda (my great grandmother) passed away recently on the 25th July, so thats why i'm trying to trace the family tree. If you definately related to George S Hilsden, we are related. wow.. thats cool :)
