Barbara Purcell born Campbeltown ***Completed****
« on: Monday 09 August 10 16:43 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I am looking into a Purcell (Pursell) family from Campbeltown. Father was Peter Purcell, a flesher, born Kilcalmonell c1800 (can't find his birth)and mother was Mary Ramsay born Killean c1813. I cannot find their marriage.

I have found 2 entries on the IGI for Barbara Purcell with the parents as named above. Both born in Campbeltown, one on 20.11.1836 and one born on 2.7.1846.

On the 1841 census there is a Barbara, listed as being 11 years, but this age doesn't fit with an 1836 birth. On the 1851 census there is Barbara aged 5, which would fit in with an 1846 birth.

The only thing I can think is that there were two couples named Peter Purcell and Mary Ramsay, who both named their daughter Barbara. Or is it ever heard of parents naming a child after a deceased sibling?

Thanks for any help or advice anyone can give.

Julie.
