Hi  :)

Does this have anything more than what's been available for a long time:

Hi Gadget,

Yes it does have some different features. Obviously the census is the census however www.maxwellancestry.com are doing more with it. Here are some examples:

·   Notes from our own research including dates of death and imprisonments: http://www.maxwellancestry.com/census/41transcript.aspx?houseid=78901224

·   Automatic maiden name search. For an example search the 1861 Census for "Elizabeth Grieve" located in the parish of "Roberton". The only result will be Elizabeth G. Beatie, when you click to see the transcription you will see that Grieve was her maiden name. The maiden name has been automatically searched. Also alternative surname: http://www.maxwellancestry.com/census/51transcript.aspx?houseid=85501001

·   We are linking the census with both modern and historical maps so that people who are less familiar with the area can see where their ancestors once live: http://www.maxwellancestry.com/census/51transcript.aspx?houseid=76801064

The first stage though is to transcribe the census data and get it online then we can add to it. The Stewartry of Kirkcudbright does not have as many of these added features as other counties in Southern Scotland however it does have a few and this is a fast moving project: we hope to be adding more shortly. The census is being used almost as a tool to “hang” other things onto, a way to add more colour to family trees if you like.

I hope this helps explain what we’re trying to do.

Emma
