So we are looking for Emma BAILEY bn 1861 Hanley, Stafford on censuses with her father Thomas BAILEY up until her marriage to William PEPPITT in 1882, she would have been of age to work by 1881 so could well be on her own then, there are a few Emma BAILEYS in Stafford as a servant but none born Hanley.

Do you have any idea of her mother's name ?
Have you located her birth record?

Did a search of Stafford BMD birth range 1858 – 1864
Emma BAILEY this is what came up

1858 Tunstall  mothers maiden name not given
1860 Longton mmn BAILEY
1860 Longton mmn NUTT
1860 Shelton mmn BAILEY
1861 Shelton mmn STREET
1864 Hanley mmn MARE
1864 Burslem mmn not given

There are two marriages that correspond to above birth records from IGI pilot search

Marriage
1/08/1853 Etruria, Stafford
Thomas BAILEY age 21 (1832) father Thomas BAILEY
Anna STREET  age 19 (1834) father William STREET

marriage
1863 Wellington
Frederick BAILEY 22 (1841) father James BAILEY (wrong father's name)
Anne MARE 22 (1841) father John MARE

Do you think her mother could be Anna/e STREET ?
Couldn't see marriage for a Thomas BAILEY to ? NUTT

Still hoping we may find William PEPPITT somewhere on censuses prior to 1882 marriage

Hi
Could Anna later have become Hannah, given that most of the Peppitts up to this point in time are illiterate and so the person taking the census could easily have made a mistake. I ask as one of my relatives was written down as Janice when their name was, in fact, James!

It strikes me that William could not have simply disappeared during the 1861, '71 and '81 census and its my guess that his name was spelt very differently. The mystery continues.

In answer to your question I don't have Emmas mothers name, sorry

Jane

Hi

Have been following up the family with Hannah Bailey and Joshua Hughes in the hope of finding William. No luck as yet with william but I feel they are putting what suits. I was trying to find hannah in 1871 and this is what I found

1871

Joshua Hughes, Head, Married, 1842, Wolverhampton, Puddler at Iron Works
Hannah, Wife, 1837, Married, Hanley
Thomas, son, 1854, Hanley
Eliza, dau, 1855, Hanley
Hannah, dau, 1857, Hanley
Emma, dau, 1861, Hanley
Rose, dau, 1866, Hanley

No suitable births were evident so I looked for a marriage for a Hannah Bailey

Hannah Bailey married William Willding, Wellington St Luke 1876 - are you able to find more info on that marriage please Ladyhawk?

In 1871 the family I was looking into were living next door to a William Wilding also born Hanley, might be a co-incidence. what made me look at marriages under Bailey was because I was convinced this was the Bailey family living with Joshua Hughes but I needed proof. In 1881 William and Hannah are living 45 West Street next door to Hannah Bailey. One child Emma born 1880 was born Barnsley, Yorkshire, could this be where we may find William?

So where does this leave us? This family I think is most probably the family of Emma Bailey and Henry Jones but how is William connected to them.

The other children may need chasing up as Bailey's to give further proof.

Here's the marriage & 1881 census info.

William WILLDING 19 (1857) father James

The witness on Emma's marriage cert. could in fact be her sister   :)

45 West Street, Stoke on Trent

William WILLDING  23 coal miner
Hannah 23
Mary A 4
James 3
Emma 1 Barnsely Yorks

Hi

Need an opinion on this one.

In 1872 a Jane Pippett married a Job Warren, Wellington, St Lukes. If I have found the correct family living with them in 1881 are step children,

William Derricott (def looks like that on the original too) 1860 Corbridge Staffordshire, Forge Labourer Iron, Robert Derricott, Corbridge, 1862, Forge Labourer Iron
Sarah Derricott, Hanley, 1864

Jane was born about 1828, Iron Bridge Shropshire

Guess where they were living - next door to Hannah Willding  :-\

What a brilliant find Evie

There has too be a strong connection here, William's occupation matches 1901 & 1891 census, surname ends in double T, living next door too Hannah WILDING

marriage
Jane PIPPETT 40 (1832 father Samuel PEPPER
Job WARREN 38 (1834) father Stephen WARREN
17/06/1872 Wellington, Stafford

Was Jane married before ?

Hi

On Staffordshire BMD births as follows

John Dorricott 1856, Burslem, Stoke on Trent, mmn Peppit
Robert Dorricott 1861, Shelton, Stoke on trent, mmn Peppit
Sarah Jane Dorrycott, 1863, Hanley, Stoke on Trent, mmn Povit (I think probably a transcription error as there is a Sarah J with the family in 1871

In 1859 there is a William Henry Dorricott, Shelton but unfortunately no mmn given

Ladyhawk - you asked if Jane had been married before, I cannot see a marriage to John Dorrycott yet in the census they are living as married.
