You go to your local city for a day shopping with rellies, and plan to separate for a few hours but rather than shop you want to go to the city record office to continue researching the ancestors from the county you live in.

Every year we go go to Cornwall for our holidays . My husband thinks this is just because I love it there so much but he never questions why we have to have to stop off ( for a coffee)  at a different place each time on the way ie  Wareham Dorchester Beaminster Netherby Bridport..... all places where my ancestors came from. And why I always have to have a quick look round the cemetery!!!

We have come a long way though since the early days, so many records online now is there any need for the note on the door asking the postman to please not bend any A4 envelopes from Southport?    And is my microfiche reader now obsolete ?

Is my Microfische reader obsolete? Certainly yes, but still essential, and for the same reason as my W10 computer still has a USB drive A to enable me to read ancient floppy disks. But I can't read the old 5 1/4" ones from the early days!!

Some years ago at work I had a new computer for the office (for the first time without a 5¼" floppy drive), and I insisted on taking the 5¼" floppy drive out of my old computer and installing it in the new computer.

I then took all my old disks from home  into work with me and transferred everything from 5¼" to 3½" floppies.

And a few years later I had to transfer all the 3½" floppies to USB sticks when they stopped installing 3½" floppy drives !!
