When you lay in bed at night analysing strong conjecture in a family tree line. You think more clearly at that time anyway.

In family trees you will always find wrong lines more interesting than right ones but also vice versa, the right line is much more interesting than the wrong line.

..my W10 computer still has a USB drive A to enable me to read ancient floppy disks. But I can't read the old 5 1/4" ones from the early days!!

Don't laugh! At the weekend I was installing Windows 10 on an elderly (2004) desktop, and decided to update the firmware in the (vain) hope of getting the 64-bit version working. The BIOS update demanded Windows XP and no newer. The microcode update was only available as an image to be written to a 1.44MB floppy. That model of desktop had never shipped with a floppy drive! I had to dig out my USB floppy - luckily still working at least half a decade after its last outing.

When lying awake, and trying to drop off to sleep, I always used to think of my 'favourite' ancestor, one of my greatx2 grandparents, who was pregnant when she married her 'gypsy' (travelling family) partner in 1865 (I imagine him as a dark handsome fellow, and he was a sailor at the time too!)

They very soon split up, she met a widower from her village, and they lived together and had a very long family, without telling anyone they weren't married......

She was quite a lady.  And used to send me off to sleep, just thinking of her.

I find myself thinking "that's an unusual surname" while watching TV, and then checking FreeBMD to find out exactly how unusual.

Often I will work out a rough tree to check where their ancestors, and thus the name, come from.

You definitely know you're addicted when you've spent a few weeks researching a distant DNA match and go down a side road and suddenly you're researching the step granddaughter of your 3x Great Aunt.

when every time your wife mentions an old friend, you look them up see when they married died etc if possible

I did that yesterday on the 9th on FreeBMD to check if "Marriage" was a surname, it is!

You walk though a town/city graveyard or churchyard and look at headstones, and anyone who died in, say 1845, you think "They should be on the 1841 census". Or you see a headstone for someone who died in January 1852, you think "Well they made it to the 1851 census".

I cut through the church yard today, glanced at a stone and thought,ooh they'd have been born roughly around when the second church was built and they died before this (the 3rd) one was built.
