Promise to stop real time updates in a minute but I think I may have had a breakthrough with checking surrounding census records.

In 1871 the previous page to John has a Thomas Ponsford aged  78 if I am reading the terrible hand writing correctly.  ;D
Ponsford/Pounsford/Pounceford in Somerset (Spaxton mainly) and Cardiff

This is strange I dont seem able to find John on the 1851 or 1861 census anymore. I have the PDFs but wanted to look at the surrounding entries. I think his surname has been mistranscribed at some point to something like Comford but cant find that either.

Ok with the help of some nice people in the chat room, I may have got back to my GGG Grandfather Thomas Pounceford. The name appears to change with almost every recording now.

Hi,

I'm also a newbie looking for Ponsford, but mine are from the Devon area...I have a bit of luck with a website called FreeReg which allows you to search some parish records, for Baptism, Marriages and Burials.

It might help, love to know if you have come a crossed any Devon, Ponsford on your search.
