Was just about to reply with more or less the same comment about his height - was going to say where did all the tall genes go as we are quite a short/average height family. He sounds a bit of a rat with his assaulting his wife think it was 1875c and then deserting her. He got his payback in that he ended up in a lunatic asylum and died in his late 40's  :D  Ladyt

Ladyt

Regarding the Queensland Minrer's Rights for JH, WM & JW Shepperson.

Mining wardens issued mining rights for designated mining areas I have some information relating to Shepperson.

From the Queensland Government Gazette.

Miner's Right

J H Shepperson Licence No 63136 issued 30th May 1874 for Ravenswood Qld

WM Shepperson Licence No 35410 issued 22 Oct 1870 for Ravenswood Qld.

J w Shepperson Licence No 38454 issued 14th June 1871 for Ravenswood Qld.

Gold was discovered at Ravenswood in North Queensland in 1868.

J W Shepperson Licence No 54670 issued 14th Dec 1872 for Charters Towers, Broughton and Capoe Rivers.

Gold was discovered at Charters Towers in 1871 and the Palmer River in 1873.

There were thousands of prospectors who came to the north Queensland Gold fields in the 1870s many came frrom overseas and the Victorian Gold Fields as well.  These Sheppersons were there in the early period of the rush.

Also there were unclaimed letters gazetted as being held by the Post Office for J W Shepperson as follows.

Address Barcoo 4th July 1868 letter code UK
Address Springsure 5th Sept 1868 letter code C
Address Rockhampton 6th May 1871 letter code UK
Address Tambo 6th Oct 1874 letter code O
Address Palmer 7th Nov 1874 letter code C

Don't know what the letter codes mean but probably where the letter was sent from.

Dont know any more about these Sheppersons but they may have been brothers or at least closely related who got the prospecting bug like may did including my past relations who went to Charters Towers.

Regards

Gerry

Hello,

Is this Joseph Kendall the man from Shropshire who was transported to VDL on the MOFFATT in 1842 aged c19?

Hi first post. This is a quick question for Merlin. I am trying to confirm my ancestor arrived on the Bayswater in 1864. His name was John Wotherspoon and came out with his wife Elizabeth Buchannon and 2 children. They turned up in Rockhampton that year.
