Hello JeanetteS,

Welcome to Rootschat.

I have Haren ancestors from Tullaghaboy.  I visited there last month and viewed remains of 2 Haren homes there.  I have similar first names to the ones you posted.  Did Terence born 1870-1940 go to New York?

Regards,
DoireM

Hello

Well, according to some notes I have from another family member Terence Jnr became a priest - known as Fr.Matthew Haren O.F.H. (I don't know what the initials stand for).  I don't know how accurate this info is though because it was passed on to us.

However there must be a connection somewhere as from what I can work out Tullaghboy was not a huge place!

regards
Jeanette

A relative sent me a copy of our Haren tree which hailed from Tullaghaboy.  Both Haren houses were a stone throw from one another, it is a very small holding.

Yes, I believe there is a connection with our Haren's of Tullaghaboy.

Terrence and Catherine are shown in the 1901 Clare Census.

Francis Harhen married Anne King about 1879.  They had the following children:

Thomas born about 1881
Patrick - Baptized on February 25, 1882.  Godmother Margaret Meany
Mary Anne born about 1883
Daniel - Baptized on May 2, 1884.  Godmother Bridget Murphy
Catherine - Baptized on July 26, 1886.  Godmother Mrs. Murphy
Michael born about 1888
Anne - Baptized on April 8, 1891.

It is likely that Terence Haran's father was also Terence Haran.  In the 1855 Griffith's Valuation, it lists Terence Haran and Terence Haran, Jr. together renting a large farm of 207 acres, no roods and 33 perches of land containing a house and offices (barns), from a land agent named Nicholas Westby.  It would be likely that this is the same home Terrence Jr, was residing in at the time of the 1901 census.

There were five parcels of land in the townland of Tullaghaboy in 1855 totaling just over 646 acres of land, so the two Terences possessed almost one third of the total land in the townland.

Wow thanks John!

I have some detail on the family which ties in nicely with your details.  I only had details of two children for Francis and Anna King, Dan 1884 and Michael 1889, so this is very useful thanks.

regards
Jeanette

Jeanette,

A bit more.  The two Terrances (Jr. and Sr.) were also renting land in the neighboring townland of Slievealoughaun.  Terance Sr, is renting a small parcel of more than two acres of land from Thomas Ready.  There are no structures onthe land.

Terance Jr., is renting 36 acres, three roods and 35 perches of land with two houses and an office, from the Trustees of Lady DuBoyne.  He in turn is renting out one of the homes to Mr. Patrick Hogan.

There is another family living in the townland named O'Donnell.  At the time of the 1901 census for Slievealoughaun, there is a family of John Haran and Catherine O'Donnell, who were married in Kilmaley Church on February 6, 1869.  There are nine children listed in the census, but Catherine hasd already passed on.  The youngest child was two years of age, so she must have died in 1899 or 1900.  I do have some Baptism records for these children if this information means anything to you.

Could either of your Terence Harans be the Terence J. Haran who was father of Timotheus John Haran (b. Abt 1829/31) who married Bedelia Mary Kelly in Kilrush on 21 Jan 1864?  I have lots of information on Timotheus if you are interested.
