Did you have the death certificate for Thomas? If that has the address it may help with your search for the family in 1911.

Thomas Phillips age 28 in 1914 (Mar Q) which was when the deaths were registered officially.
Pontypridd 11a 724

Also you could contact Glamorgan Archives in Cardiff for more information.

Good luck with your search  :)

morganllan, if youre out there i have new information. We think that Lily Hannah's surname could be  Lily Hannah Dibden Bullock or just Lily Bullock. After her first marriage she remarried Daniel D Leyshon. I have found the marriage registry for a Lily Bullock and Daniel D Leysion. My wifes aunt says that Lily may not have been born in Senghenydd and may well have been born somewhere else in Wales or possibly the west country. Any help would be very apprieciated.

I've found the address for Thomas Phillips was 8 Stanley Street, Senghenydd so you can pay to view the 1911 census and confirm the household members names and ages.

Senghenydd Explosion Fund Deed of Trust 1914. Lists the names of the deceased, names of widows and date of birth, names of children and their date of birth.

This is available from the South Wales Miners' Library at University of Wales, Hendrefoelan House, Gower Rd, Swansea

http://www.swan.ac.uk/lis/library/libraries/swml/

Suggest you contact them regarding the records for Thomas Phillips. :)

There seems to be some confusion around Lily Hannah's name and status. If she was Lily Bullock when she married Daniel, then she may not have been married to Thomas. Also the records show that Thomas left a wife and 2 children rather than 4.

It may be best to start with what you know and order certificates to get back to your wife's Great Grandparents. If you know where and when Grandparent Phillips was born, I suggest you order the birth certificate. This will provide details of parent's names and address.

Good Luck
Morgan

Hi all. I have contacted the South Wales Miners Library in Swansea about details of Thomas Phillips. The reply was as follows: I have looked in the Senghenydd Explosion Fund Deed of Trust 1914 and have found the following information:

W.J. Phillips, not married.

Thomas Phillips – widow Annie date of birth 1886

Name of child – Sarah Jane, dob 17 March 1908

David Thos. Dob 1 December 1909

None of these names i  know, so he can't have been  Lilly's husband. I can't understand because these were the only two Phillips that died in the disaster. All i can think of is her husband died down the Senghenydd pit but at a different  date. She remarried at the beginning of 1914 though.Any ideas anyone?

I think to clear up a lot of confusion is to order the birth cert which you KNOW to be correct, having named and have correct year of birth.

Lily Irene Phillips born 1906 (March quarter)
Merthyr Tydfil 11a 820

You can then go from there her parents to be sure of names etc.

There was also a Lily I Phillips born 1912 in Cardiff and several other Lily Phillips over the same period. You need to decide which certificate to send for based on how much information you have. If you have full name and date of birth it will be easier to get the right certificate.

Where did the name Bullock come from? If the 1914 marriage of Lily Bullock is correct, it may be worth getting that certificate to find out whether Lily was a spinster or a widow. There was an Edwin Bullock died too but his wife was Hannah and children don't match.

Best wishes
Morgan

Senghenydd would come under Pontypridd reg district..Troedyrhiw would be lower Merthyr Tydfil

http://www.fhswales.org.uk/counties/GLA.htm

Lilly Hannah Phillips and Thomas Phillips children are called: Evelyn Phillips, Ivy Phillips, Tom Philips and Lilly Irene Philips 1906-1986.

There are to many to list on FreeBmd not knowing ages, or pob

I would say contact the local reg offices but without a birthyear of any of the children..would be difficult to pin down...you really need to find this family in 1911..then you will know ages and pob.
