Louis Pfister, Künzelsau
« on: Saturday 21 August 10 15:52 BST (UK) »
I found the relative I have been searching for a long time in the Probate Agenda on one of the subscribed sites.

Although I am overjoyed at this information, giving his address as "Am Zollstock, Künzelsau", I wonder whether he just went over for a visit or emigrated. The last I found of him was on the 1911 Census.

In the probate it states that Louis Pfister died on 9th October 1936, at the above address. Does probate in England signify that he still had his abode in Widnes and was only visiting Germany? Funnily enough, I cannot find Christina Pfisterer's death notice in England.

Thank you for any help you can give me.

Hi SwissGill

As he left an actual will which was proved (rather than dying intestate and there only being a Letter of Administration), it may be beneficial to order a copy of the will to see what it actually says. Wills can sometimes contain a lot of useful information.

If you can get to the Principle Probate Registry at Holborn, you can order a copy of a will for £5 each and have it on a one hour service.

If you can't get to Holborn, you'll need to apply to York, more info here

http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/cms/1226.htm

You can apply to York for a copy of the will with the info on Ancestry, (they only need surname, forename, date of death, Probate, where proved (Liverpool), and the date it was proved.  You need to send them the money (£5 each) and wait, most probably about a month based on comments on Rootschat from other people. But get in quick before everyone starts to order based on the Ancestry dataset and York can't cope.

Hi Dawnsh

Thank you very much. I've checked out the site. Being outside the UK, I have to send an International Money Order but that's no problem.

The information just given on the probate calender is very useful, too, but has increased my searching time which I had decided to curtail!!!!

Best wishes
Gill
