re.Samuel Pugh=Elizabeth. Think I have Samuel on file will check my records at home. You are very unlikely to find any non parochial records(chapel) after 1837-all chapel "surrendered 1837. I am curious know must check my records.

Thanks Garfydd!
I'll be interested to learn more from you regarding Samuel Pugh=Elizabeth. They have two rather unusual names for two of their children. One is Giles Powell Pugh, which is partially explained by Elizabeth's maiden name which was Powell, and the fact that a Giles Pugh lived close by in Trallong. He was born in Llanfihangel Nant Bran as well. The other name is Albert Chrismus Pugh, which is really out of place...

Regarding the 1714 record of Thomas Pugh, I have found possible parents for him in Maesmynis and Merthyr Cynog, but only as marriage bonds. His father would have been born around 1885, which is going back a long way.

The family seems to have a Trades background, not farmers.

I hope things are going well for you!

Best Wishes,

Llanfi :) :) :)

Hi!

Of course that was supposed to be 1685 not 1885!

Hi!

I found that Elizabeth's father, Thomas Powell had an elder brother Giles Powell who was indeed the wealthy Farmer living in Trallong. So Giles conforms to Welsh naming convention!

Albert Chrismus was later corrected to Albert Christmas. and maybe he was born around Christmas time... why Albert I don't know... ?

Cheers,

annwyl Llanfihangel,
Thought I sent you a message yesterday, I am confused!! Just snippets.Samuel Powell, chr. Ap.9,1826 at Llangorse C.M.Chapel.=Elizabeth Powell at Brecon R.O. 1860. Albert Christian bo. ca. Mch.2, chr. Mch. 4, 1865 at Aberyscir P.Ch. He probably named after the husband of Queen Victoria.  Will explore the other "stuff" you receive.

Hi,
After lots of research on the Internet and considerable help by Rootschat and Archives at the Library of Wales, I have found the following:

I have Bishops Transcripts etc  of my Ancestors in Llanfihangel Nant Bran, Brecknockshire, Wales
Thomas Pugh and Elizabeth baptised Thomas 1714 at Llanfihangel Nant Bran
Elizabeth, wife of Thomas Pugh ,was buried 16 December 1723
Thomas Pugh was buried 2 February 1728

Thomas Pugh 1714 Nov 23 1775 married Elizabeth Thomas on 9 April 1740. (Aberyscir) They christened Elizabeth and buried her the same year.
They baptised William, January 22 1742; Evan, 9 April 1743; Ann, December 20 1751; Gwen, August 27 1754; Elizabeth, January 16th 1746; and Samuel, May 28 1758, all in Llanfihangel Nant Bran.
Thos Pugh buried January 12 1775
Evan married Joan Jones July 2 1779
They had Thomas Evan March 11 1785, David, Samuel, Ann, Mary, Catharine

Evan Pugh of Llanfihangel Village was buried July 14 1819
Joan Pugh abode Village buried May 20 1831 age 76

Samuel married Margaret Williams 1 January 1 1824, in LLnB Church, Witnesses Watkin Williams and Thomas Williams and had four children in Llangorse:
Dafyd, Samuel, Hannah,Margaret

Samuel married Elizabeth Powell and had 11 chidren, mostly in Llanfilo
I am descended from Samuel

Other Family data in Llanfihangel Nant Bran:

Elizabeth Pugh Baptised July 30 1780
Chatherine of Evan Pugh baptized 21 April 1782
Thomas Evan Pugh baptized March 11 1785
Catherine Pugh baptized July 3 1785
Eliza Pugh Baptised March 16 1787
Elizath Pugh Buried July 14 1787
Elizabeth Pugh Baptised February 15 1790
David Pugh Baptised March 11 1793
Samuel Son of Evan Pugh Baptised March 30 1794
Esther Griffiths Baptised May 28 1802

This makes it likely that my most distant Ancestor, Thomas Pugh was christened about 1685 in Brecknockshire.

I am still working on the 1700s!

Comments are welcome
Thanks to all of you
