Herbert Janvrin Vincent and Agnes Claudia Vincent (Friedburg)
« on: Thursday 26 August 10 16:21 BST (UK) »
I am struggling to put this together.

Herbert Janvrin Vincent married Agnes Friedburg (the spelling on this varies). They had children Herbert Frederick Janvrin Vincent and Frederick Augustus Janvrin Vincent, who ended up living with their grandfather in Jersey in 1891. They are in the 1881 census (in Croydon) but that is the last record I have for them. Nothing showing up on any death lists. I think I am going to track down the marriage certificate for the son, as this will show whether the father of the groom was alive or deceased at their marriage - Frederick and Agnes Laughland married in 1903.
They had previously spent time abroad and it is strange that the children lived with the grandparents in Jersey in 1891.

Anyone able to help?

Hi

You haven't included details of birthplaces or birthyears for any of the family which makes it difficult for us to trace them

The 1891 shows Frederick was b 1878 in New Zealand and Herbert in 1879 "Bay of Biscay" so presumably born at sea

The 1881 entry was found by another RC member and shows Agnes was b 1855 London Middlesex and Herbert snr 1855 Batley Yorkshire

The FREE 1911 index has an entry for a Frederick A J Vincent b 1878 and living in the district of Redruth in Cornwall

The 1911 is strictly pay per view so you need to buy credits to view the full entry

Herbert's parents Frederick & Amelia (seen 1891 with the grandsons in Jersey) - in 1861 Frederick was the Vicar of St Chads, Castle Church, Staffs (and also involved with a school ?)

Just in case you haven't seen it before:
http://www.societe-jersiaise.org/library/genealogy-research.html

http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html shows two of their children were christened in Treyford, Sussex (middle name "Janorin") - was there some family link there as well?

There are some references on books.google.com to a H. Janvrin Vincent, a printer in SA.

Sorry, I forgot to put the birth years but it seems people have found them from the 1881 census, 1854 and 1855 respectively.
I know that Herbert, son of F.A. Vincent (Headmaster of Batley, then St. Chad's in Staffordshire and a couple of other churches), went to New Zealand, following his brother, Frederick Janvrin Vincent, and FJV then went off to USA. It seems, due to existing in the 1881 census in Croydon, that they returned and Herbert Frederick Janvrin Vincent was born at sea on the way back. However, post 1891 I cannot find him. His brother and HJV's sons are very much in existence and I have details for them. Just wondering what happened to Herbert Janvrin Vincent and his wife.
Thanks for the help.

I think the South Africa link is a long shot but it's tricky trying to trace them. Herbert and Agnes seem to disappear. Any other suggestions?
The Janvrin part of the name is distinctive and that is why the South African book could be an option but would it be normal to dump your children with the grandparents and then make a new life elsewhere?

Herbert Janvrin Vincent b. 1855 d. ????
Agnes (Friedburg) Vincent abt. 1854 d. ????
