HILLMANs of West Grinstead & Steyning, Sussex

I'm looking to find out about my wife's ancestors, the HILLMANs.

Specifically, I'm looking for Chesman Hillman born abt 1749 in West Grinstead.  I'm looking for his parents / antecedants.

We believe Chesman Hillman married a Mary in Steyning, West Sussex, but we cannot find an official reference for this or Mary's maiden name.  Hence,we cannot find her parents.  We're assuming she was a local girl.

Their daughter Phoebe, was baptised in Steyning.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I think I have found him

Chasemere Illman baptised at West Grinstead on 28 September 1749 to Elizabeth Illman, baseborn.

I think I may have found his mother although she is a little bit older than I would have expected.

Elizabeth Illman baptised at West Grinstead 20 February 1723/24 to Thomas and Elizabeth Illman.
