Just seen Castle info;  I believe a few families have got mixed up.
One report gave John Castle born Grantham and married to a Elizabeth. Correct-Eliz Bradshaw BUt they had children of : Frank Barton/John Edward/William Marshall and John who married a Sarah Parsons. These children are different to those "Suggested" in Rootschat.  They were Carriage makers,but had a big bust up.

It is correct that he hung himself. Also the father of John Castle 1830 was also a John-he died when he fell off his cart. No laughing.!!

How do I know-well Harry was child of John who married Sarah. He had only one child Vera. My Stepmother.!!

Any connection???

In the "Red Book"Grantham Directory 1886/7 There is a G.CASTLE advert(No adverts after 1887) BUT in "Grantham in the News"1876-1900 for the year 1887 there is an article titled "Fire guts Rag Firm".
?? I wondered if G.Castle went out of buisiness after the fire.

Baptism Newark St Mary Magdalene
8-7-1870 William Marshall Castle son of John a coachbuilder and wife SARAH the family were living in Middlegate.

Marriage same church
16-7-1868 John Castle and Sarah Parsons.

John Castle and Sarah are in Belper on the 1881 census he is an Innkeeper aged 36 and born East Retford.( Making him the son of the John born in Grantham?) The following children are with them
William Marshall aged 11
John Edward aged 9
Frank Barton aged 5

John Castle coachbuilder is in Newark on the same census aged 62 and born Grantham.His wife Elizabeth aged 61 was born in Corby. The following children are with them
George aged 29 working coach maker
Harry aged 27 working coach maker
Fred 24 railway clerk
Frank 20 apprentice joiner
Austin 11 scholar

Further to my info from Grantham re  Castles I have located the writeup about the fire(from Grantham Journal dated Jan 15th 1887).It appears that the Castle premises were safe after fire.

In 1861 RG09/2350 Folio 80 Page 1 in Grantham lodging at 27 High Street(next to Red Lion Hotel now gone) were.
Edward Castle born 1843 born Retford. Coach Body Maker
John         "         "     1845      "    "          Coach Painter.

I have Castle family tree following mainly Newark branch on Genes Reunited. Earliest Castle found so far is John Castle (born c1777 Sheffield) who married Martha Hague. Anyone reliably got back further than this? I have various photos, adverts etc that I am happy to share.
