Elizabeth Bagshaw
« on: Monday 30 August 10 00:06 BST (UK) »
I have been trying to find out about my great great grandmother Elizabeth Bagshaw. She was born in about 1821 and died in New Zealand in 1883. I posted a query on the Lancashire board because she was married in Manchester to William Gadsby Probert in 1844, but someone found a census record that said Elizabeth Probert of Manchester was born in Flintshire Wales, and that there were possible families for her in Bagilt? and Holywell. Can anyone help me to find her? A possible clue- her death certificate says her father was William, and that she was born in North Wales.

Thank you, this does sound like the right family. They were in New Zealand by 1865, and they had at least one more child, my great grandmother Ada Jane Probert, born in 1863, presumably in Manchester.

April 5 1829. Elizabeth Bagshaw d/o Daniel & Mary. Brynford. Miner.

Jan 16 1831. Elizabeth Bagshaw d/o James & Sarah. Brynford. Miner.

I know this is a long shot but there was apparently a Thomas Bagshaw born in Whitford in 1823, parents William and Elizabeth. Elizabeth's brother was William, and I see that Whiford is next to Holywell. So, even though we haven't found a birth record for Elizabeth Bagshaw, or a marriage for a William Bagshaw to an Elizabeth, could this possibly be the right family? Is there any possible reason why Thomas' birth might be recorded but not Elizabeth?

And also I spotted another Elizabeth Bagshaw born in Holywell in 1828, bap.Calvinist Methodist, parents Thomas Bagshaw/ Anne Griffiths.

I have been trying to find out about my great great grandmother Elizabeth Bagshaw. etc etc

Hi Lindy
My name is John Roberts and I can give you quite a bit of information about the Bagshaws in Flintshire (too much to post on here). Elizabeth Bagshaw who married William Probert was the great granddaughter of Christopher Bagshaw and Sitha (nee Hawley/Howley) who came to Halkyn (Flintshire) from Winster in Derbyshire in the early 1700s. I am the 5g-grandson of Christopher and Sitha (via a different line). I have been trying to sort out all the Bagshaws in the area and I believe they all descend from C & S or from a couple called Oliver and Mary who I cannot connect to C & S and who (I think) came from Hope in Derbyshire (also in early 1700s.)
I am new to RootsChat and am unsure how to pass the information to you (should you be interested). Is there a way to exchange e-mail addresses securely?
In general, if anyone wants specific info about Flintshire Bagshaws then maybe I can help. Many of their descendants ended up in Lancashire.
Regards   John.
