From the parish records I was able to discover that William Jieves m. Mary Clemens 30 Jan 1791 at St Swithuns. And that thier son Henry signed his name Jeeves when he married Edith Cooper in 1811.   Henry had 3 siblings noted, William Jieves, Sarah Jieves and Mary Jieves.

Thanks for the leads.

You still have no evidence that the Henry who married Edith Cooper was the son of William and Mary, rather than the Henry who was baptised on 3 Jul 1791, the son of Thomas and Ann. At the moment it's a 50% chance, which wouldn't be good enough for me. That's also a 50% chance you're researching someone else's ancestors.

Of course William and Thomas were probably related and you may find they have a common ancestor

I'm thinking it's better than 50/50 as on their marriage parish report it indicates he signed it Henry Jeeves but it his name was Jieves.  Parents were Jieves not Jeeves.  So elimiates the others.

When most people were illiterate and the name was spelt however the scribe thought it should be spelt, I wouldn't place much credence on spelling patterns. But as virtually all the Jeeves were spelt Jeives in Sandy PR I don't see how Henry signing his name Jeeves either proves or eliminates either set of possible parents

At least we have this information out there just in case someone else is looking for Jieves/Jeeves from Sandy and might be able to contribute in future.  I am aware of some Jeeves still in Sandy that are related to us from a visit by a cousin to Sandy in 1967.  But we've lost contact with them.
Thanks

None of the baptisms in Sandy of JEIVES children specify an abode. Neither do any of the marriages.

Found some info in the Banns listing that are not on the IGI - if anyone's interested

30/4/1775 William Jeives to marry Eliz Saby of Northill
19/7/1778 Francis Jeives to marry Eliz Pease of Henlow
7/7/1771 Robert Jeives, widower to marry Sarah Aborn of Dunton

Thanks for the Saby banns John. I had the marriage in Northill on 3 May 1775 but hadn't picked up that William was from Sandy. He was the husband of my 1st cousin 7 times removed, or so my relationship calculator says ie pretty remote! But's that's contingent on Elizabeth's father John Sabey being the one from Colmworth. But the one from Colmworth might be the John who went to Bolnhurst, in which I might not be related to Elizabeth at all. Isn't genealogy complicated on a beautiful sunny Monday morning when I should be in the garden!

All the best

David

Hazel Cameron from Australia had a copy of the banns cert. for Henry Jeeves and Caroline Tatmun 1840.  I have not heard from Hazel since 1991.
