Cottages at New Quay Greenfield Holywell
« on: Wednesday 01 September 10 16:33 BST (UK) »
I have been looking at old maps at where my gr/gr/grandparents lived at New
Quay, it backed  onto the big reservoir, this was from the 1870s into the 20th century.

I have tried to pinpoint the same location by looking at Goggle Earth,  it looks as if there are houses being built there now,  it there anyone local who has any idea when the original houses were demolished.

I grew up in Greenfield during the 60's and I do not recall any mention of a location called New Quay. Do you have any other details?
Parry, Evans, Carrington from Flintshire, N. Wales and Bennett from Hawarden.
I also do research on Cunard and White Star ships, British Victorian Wars, and the American West.

I did a quick check of my Greenfield related information and I came across a book entitled The Greenfield Valley by K. Davies and C. J. Williams compiled for the Holywell Town Council in 1977There is a map that shows the location for the remains of the New Quay Terraces and further up the road to Holywell is marked the Old Quay Terrace. I will try and send a copy asap. The location on the map is as follows: The Old Key is on the west side of the Greenfield to Holywell road, southeast of a farm and the site of Mount Pleasant Terrace. This would be before yo get to the site of the old tin works. The remains for the New Quay Terrace is further south on the Greenfield rd. Again it is on the west side of the road between the small and large reservoir and the site of the Cotton Mill and the Victoria Corn Mill.. I will look further through my files and see if I can come up with anything else.

Hello Gwyllim,

Many thanks for your reply, what a lovely welsh name you have.

The only details I have of New Quay are on a  1910 map of Holywell and Greenfield which shows New Quay and on the census from 1871 to 1911 my ancestors have it down as their address.

My dad could remember it still being there in the mid 60s when we visited the area just for a day.  I came across a photo of the cottages awhile ago on a site about the area, there were about 9 or 10 cottages.

Hi

See other posting today

I lived at 9 New Quay until 1959

Its still there

The house and  gardens were sold to an Italian family (only remember Tony)

He lived in the house and had a petrol station build along side

South of the terrace there used to be a substantial double fronted house though this was always derelict from my earliest memories

Numbers 1 to 7 were demolished along with Jasmine House which was attached to the end of the terrace at no.1

Are there any specifics you want to know?

Hello Good Evans

I have sent you a PM but as you are a new user, not sure if you can get them yet.

I can remember meeting you and Lena back in the 60's with my dad Gordon, mum and sister. Dad's mum was Mary, Roger's eldest child. We were in Holywell/Greenfield for the day and we called in at Lena's house.  I  can remember the family bible which my sister put our names in, I am sure I recall you coming in from work, can you remember our visit.

Would love to hear more from you
