Searching Simpson-Robinson, Nova Scotia
« on: Saturday 04 September 10 08:52 BST (UK) »
Tracing any records of George Simpson b 1883 in Buckhaven Scotland. The 1911 census in Canada shows he was married to Jessie Robinson b 1884 and they had 4 children.John Simpson 5/7/1905,Mary 28 March 1907 Alfred 5 Feb 1909 and James March 1910.They settled in Glace Bay ,Nova Scotia.I have no death certs, birth or marriage.John and Jessie are born in the USA and the other 3 children Nova Scotia. So it looks like George emigrated to usa met Jessie then emmigrated to Canada 1906.George was a miner.Did he leave Buckhaven alone for a new life?

more from the NS. Genealogy site

Charles Martin Robinson
Jennie Russell McLachlin
m. 1919

2nd marriage of Alfred Peter Robinson 1933, Cape Breton

death 1955, Alfred Robinson, Glace Bay

Margaret Jane Robinson, m. 1920
James Robert Taylor

When you look at the original documents on-line some interesting places come up that you may want to follow up on. Place names - Dominion #4 Glace Bay, Dominion #6 Glace Bay, Steele's Hill Passchendeale, Lake Ainslie. There were numerous McGregor's in Lake ainslie in the mid 1800's so you may want to search there for Jessie's ancestor's. Also from the original documents you will find religion, occupations, etc. I didn't list all the names as there are too many to list. Thought you should know about the Robinson connection.

From the info that I found I would suggest finding someone who can look up the passenger list and see if his destination was Boston. You have the religion so that may make it easier to find a marriage in Boston for George and Jessie. I will keep looking and see what I can find.
Good luck.

Hi

I've found a George Simpson on a Border Crossing between Canada and US, August 1904.  Port of arrival Black Rock, NY, on Michigan Central Railway.

George Simpson
Age 21, male, single
Occupation - Miner
Nationality - Scotland
Last permanent residence - Buckhaven
Final destination - Dubois, PA
Paid own passage
Had $500 in possession
Had never been in US before
Going to friend Jas. Raddock
Port of landing - Quebec
Date - September 1902
Name of ship - looks like Sarmedian -- I was thinking the Sardinian but I can't find a passenger list for Sept 1902 for this ship.

I'll keep looking for a passenger list in 1902.

Susan
