My grandmother's family are dorset Samways. mostly from  wareham, stoborough and surrounding area, although further back they are also from along the south dorset area. does anyone else have any Samways ancestors in their family?

I don't have any Samways in my family but I knew a couple...

childhood mermories of Mr Samways' kiosk by Stair Hole, Lulworth Cove.  I have photos somewhere, or my brother does.  Will post them when I find them.

He and his wife, Connie lived at Stair Cottage, BH20 5RS.  Which means that one of them must have helped my father in some way....gardening?  perhaps?

part time artist, i got in a muddle with my S's!  Connie was not married to Mr Samways, she was married to Mr Sindon who was my grandmother's gardener.

i will ask about for more info on Mr Samways.

I have read, but can't remember where that Samways is a purely Dorset name by origin, but clearly it is now more widely distributed across the UK.

Hi Part time artist,

I am related to a number of Samways in Dorset.  If you give me a couple of names and dates, i can see if there is some connection.

Loads of Dorset references to Samways on The National Archives website.  Well worth a look!

My great grandmother was Charlotte Samways - her family, in the early 1800's, lived in Portesham, they then moved to Sutton Poyntz, and finally finished up in Dorchester.

wow Emma, we must be related somewhere down the line. where do you live in NZ? I have a email friend who lives in Christchurch. I wonder if your Grandfather in Stoborough is related to my lot. I will have to ask the two second cousins I have that are also searching for Samways and see if Brian rings any bells with them
all the best
